Today is my fifth Jovian birthday. In other words, today the Planet Jupiter has completed five full orbits around our Sun since the day I was born on Earth.
When my students ask me how old I am, I often tell them to Guess, and I get ages ranging from six to over a thousand depending on the grade level and the seriousness of the students. When they ask for hints I’ll say things like “I just had my Second Saturnian Birthday” or “I just had my 96th Venetian Birthday”. The students often don’t understand and I’ll give them an ad hoc lecture on planets and orbits and sometimes someone will figure out how to look up how long it takes for other planets to orbit and do the math to figure out my age, but this is rare.
